Home stays
Portland-based volunteers needed to host out-of-town staff. Homestays will never be for more than 3-4 days at a time. Hosts will receive comp tickets to all our events, including the opera, will be reimbursed for all expenses incurred, and will get to spend time with our extraordinary cast, crew, and production team.

Logistical volunteers

Supernumeraries (non-singing actors)
In opera, Supernumeraries or “Supers” are actors who appear onstage during the opera but do not sing. In The Canticle of the Black Madonna, we’re hiring 8 supers (5 men and 3 women) to appear during one scene in the opera dressed in an Army uniform. Strong preference is given to combat veterans, but this call is open to actors in their 20’s, 30’s, or early 40’s who can take on the look of a US Soldier for this production.
There will be a casting call on the evening of Monday, August 4. Rehearsals of no more than 3 hours will be required on August 9, 14, 16, 17, 21, 24, 27, 30, 31. Performances will take place on September 4 (closed-door final dress with an audience of military families), 5, and 6. Compensation is $200, admittance to all The Canticle of the Black Madonna special events, and one complementary ticket for a friend to attend the opera.

Where: Mainstage Theatre at Mt Hood Community College (26000 Stark St. Gresham, OR) The theatre is at the south end of the main building – off the circle drive.
What: Auditions for supernumerary actors for The Canticle of the Black Madonna.
How: Group audition with Director.
