On Saturday, November 2, Ethan Gans-Morse, award-winning composer of The Canticle of the Black Madonna  gave a lecture/demonstration at the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) 2013 Festival at the University of Oregon. The presentation combined a discussion of the functional application of classical conventions in contemporary opera with live performances by renowned performers Dr. Karen Esquivel (contralto) and Matthew Pavilanis (piano).

Ethan Gans-Morse has since been asked to write about The Canticle of the Black Madonna for the quarterly publication of the National Opera Association.
